Family Photos in the Maine Woods

This little one has been in front of my lens since she was born, and I still can’t believe just how big she is now.  Working with her and her sweet family is always a treat, but doubly so when I get to go to Maine to do it!  As a College of the Atlantic graduate, Mount Desert Island holds an extra special place in my heart.  It helps that the whole island is gorgeous and the light makes for perfect photos!

Fun Wedding Day at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore!

Theme of the day: Fun. When your wedding is at the zoo, that’s not a surprise, though!  This couple decided their day was about having an all-out bash celebrating their love for one another and the things they love.  The tables were decked out with photos and mementos of their travels together, the guests came from all over the world, and the zoo brought in some of its own fabulous guests, including a kookaburra to represent the groom ...

Lifestyle Family Photos on the River in Southwest Virginia

Photographing this family since this little man was a newborn has been a blast.  I think family photos should be about preserving memories of your family, and not just smiling faces in a studio.  Lifestyle photography is about showcasing your unique personalities and capturing the moment to remember down the road.  When this family wanted to do photos out in the woods and on the river in Southwest Virginia during a festival, I was all for ...

Vintage Destination Wedding on the Connecticut Beachfront at Lighthouse Point Park

Love, tears of joy, a carousel, swing dancing, and the cutest, fluffiest puppy around; I’m not sure there’s much more I could have asked for as a photographer!  This fun, jet-setting couple decided that of all the places in all the world that they could get married, Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, Connecticut was the one for them.  Their swing dancing friends and non-dancing guests alike took the vintage, Gatsby theme for the ...

Sweet, Country Wedding in Richmond, Virginia

When folks who attended weddings I photographed reach out to me for their own weddings, I feel doubly honored to be working with them.  This wonderful bride ran around a Virginia winery with us when I photographed her sister’s big day last year, and I was thrilled to be working with her.  The theme of the day was keep it simple and laid back, and they succeeded in having a sweet, simple, country wedding on the outskirts of Richmond, ...

Amanda and Dan say I Do! at the Josephine Butler Parks Center in the District

I love working at the Josephine Butler Parks Center because I also love swing dancing there, so whenever a couple reaches out to me and tells me that’s their venue, I’m just a little extra excited.  Amanda and Dan are a fun couple full of adventure, personality, joy, and above all laughter.  Laughing and joking through the ceremony isn’t something everyone can do, but for these two it would’ve been impossible to stop. ...

Goth Wedding at Rust Manor House, Virginia

I love the words, “We’re going to do something a little different.”  To me, photos should capture who you are and what’s important to you, and there’s no better day to showcase all of that than on a wedding day.  When I met with these two and started hearing about their plans for incorporating a love of the goth scene, general nerdery, and baseball…well, I knew they were going to have an incredible day and ...

Family in Pennsylvania

Watching as a family grows over the years is one of the wonderful side benefits of being a family photographer.  I first photographed big brother when he was a newborn, and it was such an honor to be back for a mini-session with them all now that little sister is in the picture!

Workshop with Cliff Mautner

I don’t usually shoot models, and I don’t often go to workshops.  This week I’m in the Philadelphia area doing both thanks to the fabulous Cliff Mautner and his lighting & skillset bootcamp.  Here are a few photos from the first day.   Day two:
